It’s quite lively so you have to be a bit careful with where you book your accommodation if you're a light sleeper, but the ski area is fantastic with some lovely ski runs. There are lots of places to walk in the Arlberg area and you can book an expedition during the day or in torch-light at night. While it's reputation is lively (and the resort lives up to it) there are lots of options if you prefer a more sophisticated evening. Since the Alpine Skiing World Championship was successfully held in 2001, St. Anton am Arlberg has been on the radar of every keen skier. I’m not sure it’s beginner friendly, it was fine for us as we are experienced skiers but for our children it was quite difficult. I took my daughter here who was only 7 and didn’t realise that St Anton is a harder resort – the red runs are more like blacks so it’s more of a place for advanced skiers. The rest of the group hasn’t been but no one had a bad word to say about it, we had a good week. We went over Christmas and it was quite crowded – I think this is because there were a lot of people who would normally ski off-piste who end up having to stick to the pistes. One piece of advice – there’s a ski lift that goes up to the other half of the resort where there’s a snow park, it’s worth checking it out early on ... The only thing is I don’t think it’s great for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers definitely get more out of the resort. Love skiing here even tried off piste which is great. The ski school are great there and the whole process is really easy. Arlberg-well centre has indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and steam rooms if pampering is on the cards, while in the arl.rock centre you can climb indoors or out, play tennis, squash, volleyball or football or go bowling. The snow was pretty rubbish while we were here (early April) but it looked like there was a lot of potential. The main village is traffic free and stretches for about 1km - dotted with hotels, restaurants, bars and shops to suit a wide range of tastes and budgets. We were here at the very end of March/beginning of April because we had to work around university dates for the children, but you do need to go a little earlier for the best conditions. The village is quite picturesque with some old original chalet buildings and a nice church. There’s a high level of skiing and snowboarding which suits our family well as we like to do a bit of both – we just like to cover the whole of the mountain and gobble it up.
